Insurance & protection
What's covered, what's your responsibility, and exactly what to do if something happens.
Your insurance responsibility
Renters must carry valid automobile liability insurance for the full rental period and provide proof of coverage on request. Hosts do not provide liability coverage, so maintaining adequate insurance is the renter's responsibility.
Optional protection packages
At checkout you can add a protection package that provides collision and comprehensive coverage while the car is in your care. This coverage is active only during your rental period and can reduce your out-of-pocket responsibility in the event of damage.
Security deposit
A refundable security deposit of $200 is authorized before pickup. It is released within 3 business days of return, less any applicable deductions for damage, missing fuel, tolls, or fees.
If you have an accident
In the event of an accident, take these steps right away:
- Immediately notify the host
- Call the police and file a report
- Collect the other party's insurance and contact information
- Do not authorize any repairs without the host's prior written consent
Damage & liability
The renter is responsible for damage, loss, theft, or vandalism that occurs during the rental, including repair costs, towing, and diminished value — except where covered by an active protection package added at checkout.
